The most important lessons I have learned as a teacher were first learned at l’Arche (to learn more, click the l'Arche tab above!). I have learned that lowering the barriers for entry into a conversation raises up everyone in that conversation. I have come to appreciate the paramount importance of building community for individual success. And I have practiced how to make abstract concepts approachable through concrete applications, recognizing how these concrete applications often enrich students’ theoretical reflections. Each of these lessons has shaped how I structure my classroom and engage with my students, leading me to develop an inclusive pedagogy that aims to create communities of learning where all students are empowered to succeed.
